Sonocur shock wave therapy is mildly uncomfortable but typically the pain is completely relieved once the treatment ends.
The shock wave therapy was initially developed from old lithotripsy equipment that produced much higher energy levels and required anaesthesia due to the elevated pain levels.

The patient is given a series of three treatments, usually every second day or one a week. The treatments consist of an application of 2000 low energy shock waves to the site of the pain, analogous to being hit with an elastic band 2000 times. Once the treatments have been completed, the patient is reassessed in 6 weeks time in order for the potential healing effect to take place. In the majority of cases, the patient is instructed to continue regular daily activities during and following completion of the treatment sessions.
