Sonocur Shock Wave Therapy is a relatively new treatment in Canada that has recently gained popularity in the treatment of chronic tendinopathies and other musculoskeletal complaints. Shock wave therapy is indicated for the treatment of chronic unresolving painful conditions such as plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinitis, patellar tendinitis, tennis or golfer's elbow, shoulder tendinitis and other conditions.
It is postulated that the repetitive application of low energy electro-magnetic shock waves from the Sonocur machine creates a hyper stimulation effect to the localized area of treatment, thereby decreasing the severity of the chronic pain. In addition, it has been suggested through studies that the shock wave therapy may promote revascularization, or an increase in new blood vessel formation to the injured area, thereby creating a higher potential for healing of the chronically damaged tissues.
