Many overuse lower limb injuries are due to abnormal biomechanical alignment. Orthotic adjustment to an individual's shoes often is a key factor in preventing excessive stresses that are major factors in the development of injuries such as plantar fasciitis, patellofemoral syndrome, IT Band syndrome, lower limb stress fractures and others.
The Edmonton Sport Institute provides orthotic services on a twice weekly basis. Custom made semi-rigid orthotics made using foam box molds in a weight bearing mode are available at ESI for $425. No GST is applicable on orthotic purchases. Less extensive orthotic adjustments to shoes are also available if deemed appropriate by the prescribing physician.
